A Queer LGBTQ+ engagement session in Rocky Mountain National Park

There’s something undeniably romantic about love that blooms in the great outdoors, and for Angel(she/they) and Kylie(she/they), their engagement photoshoot in Rocky Mountain National Park was nothing short of magical. With breathtaking alpine views, Snowy fields galore, and a crisp mountain breeze, their session was the perfect blend of adventure, authenticity, and undeniable love.

A Love Story as Wild as the Rockies

Angel and Kylie’s love story is one for the books. They met on tik tok, while living in two different countries, and soon found themselves planning a week of adventures together. They are now happily married, but never got the chance to have engagement photos taken- that’s where I came in- to document a moment they never got to have photographed.

When it came time for their engagement photos, there was no better place than Rocky Mountain National Park. As avid outdoorsfolks, they wanted their photos to reflect their adventurous spirits and deep connection to nature. Plus, who wouldn’t want a backdrop of towering peaks and glowing alpines?

The Photoshoot Experience

From the start, this wasn’t your typical engagement shoot. Angel and Kylie arrived in blundstone boots and flannels, ready to embrace the elements. I led them to bear lake, a stunning alpine spot that felt straight out of a fairy tale. The golden afternoon light made the entire scene glow, and as the couple twirled, laughed, and ran through the snow, it was clear—they were exactly where they were meant to be.

Of course, no engagement shoot is complete without a few silly moments. Angel nearly took a tumble while attempting a dramatic kissing and falling pose, and Kylie enjoyed taking photos with a nearby snowman. But in the end, those candid, laughter-filled shots became some of their best photos.

Tips for Your Own Adventurous Engagement Shoot

Thinking of doing your own engagement session in the great outdoors? Here are a few tips to make it extra special:

  1. Dress for the Adventure – Wear comfortable shoes and layers! Nature is beautiful but unpredictable, so be prepared. Also- bring a change of clothes that you can wear and be cozy in after the session.

  2. Pick a Meaningful Location – Whether it’s the place you got engaged or a trail you love, your backdrop should have sentimental value.

  3. Embrace the Elements – Wind, a little dirt, or even some unexpected wildlife encounters make for unique and memorable shots.

  4. Be Yourselves – The best photos happen when you’re relaxed and having fun, so don’t be afraid to be goofy, spontaneous, and in the moment.

  5. Trust Your Photographer – A good photographer knows how to capture your love story while working with the natural beauty around you.

Celebrating Love in All Its Forms

Angel and Kylie’s engagement session was a testament to the beauty of queer love and the importance of representation in the wedding industry. Love is love, and seeing it celebrated in such a breathtaking setting was nothing short of inspiring.

Despite being married already, these two leaned into the engagement photoshoot experience with their whole hearts.
